St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

This church has been our "marker" when we are in the neighborhood..... it was only 2 blocks from the apartment.... when I tried to attend mass there last weekend, I was disappointed to learn that they were using the basement facility instead..... I was thrilled to find the front door open as I walked home from my last stroll around the neighborhood...

So sad that I didn't get to hear this organ..... but mass in the basement was still pretty impressive.....

Last Walk in Lower Manhattan - Seaport Area

Left the souvenir shopping for the grandchildren for the last day..... after lunch John headed back to Greenpoint I headed back to the Seaport area... Found the souvenirs I was looking for and got to see the renovations that have been made in the area..... lots of local fancy dressed business folks enjoying the beautiful weather for lunch.... a few tourists like me too.....

Last East River Ferry ride back to Greenpoint.... tomorrow I drive that bridge!!

Final Scenery from Greenpoint

On our last day before leaving for home I took a few more photos of the neighborhood.....

Mural inside a nondescript warehouse.....
Below is the screen from the closest ATM to our apartment.... it does go to English next....

Lunch in Carroll Gardens - A Brooklyn Neighborhood

Another neighborhood that we had not seen at all was Carroll Gardens..... beautiful area, larger gardens, religious statues as decorations, cute shops.....

Not my actual sandwich because we took ours to the park pictured above...but it looks identical!

Walking in Williamsburg

Last day in Brooklyn..... since we had really only seen Williamsburg (the closest neighborhood to us here in Greenpoint ) by water taxi.... today it was time for a walk.... so while John got a haircut at a local barber I roamed around taking photos of the area...

Notice the contemplative use of a Pabst!

Since John was not quite ready (first Barber Shop he went to was closed until the end of September)... had to go with Plan B..... I stopped for coffee at Cafe Collette.... very nice servers in a charming spot.... probably a lot busier for lunch and dinner but it was a perfect pitstop in the morning for me...

Notable aspects of coffee/cafe in Williamsburg.... jazz playing at 10:00 a.m..... offer postcards of your spot....

Postcard free with $3 cup of coffee......

Governor's Island

We started the adventure of the day on our nearby pier for another ride on the East River Ferry.... a gorgeous morning ride to lower Manhattan....

This was our view as we waited for our tour to begin.......

All around the island were amazing views.....

The view from Castle Williams over to Jersey City....

Available for rent.... bicycles or surreys....

A HUGE park very reminiscent of the plantings at the High Line..... hammocks, playgrounds, art installations....

Birthday Celebration Dinner Back in Greenpoint

A yummy Polish meal with John, Meredith and her friend Bobby.... Memorable birthday for sure!
